James (Jim) Leroy Sampson

March 23, 1935 - December 23, 2023

James L. Sampson, 88 years & 9 months of Albany, KY. passed this life peacefully in his sleep on December 23rd 2023 in Byrdstwon, TN. Born on March 23rd, in Hall, Indiana to the late Solomon (Ted) & Zenia Marie (Shane) Sampson. He married at the age of 21 to Doris E. Dewar on September 7th, 1956. He was a Veteran of the Army National Guard. He also worked hard to support his family and loved to reminisce and share stories of the past. Most of all, Jim was such a people person, he met no strangers and was passionate about donating time to many community events such as the Clinton Co. Fair and numerous benefit auctions for others. If you ever needed to purchase something, he was the "One" to take along with you to haggle the seller and wouldn't quit until his fair price was the one that was settled upon. He was also known to increase bids at any auction on items he had no intent to purchase and was usually successful & thrilled in doing so. He enjoyed anything that went fast, from racing his go-carts with his brother Bobby, sprint and stock cares, as well as loving NASCAR and especially his favorite driver of the iconic black #3, The Intimidator Dale Earnhardt. He thoroughly enjoyed IU basketball & Bobby Knight, was a great mechanic and was always piddling in the garage. He enjoyed bowling, driving wreckers, hauling vehicles, word search puzzles, antique tractor shows and..... scratching lottery tickets. His love of gambling on the lottery tickets seemed to carry thru to his children, much to the chagrin of "Mom" who wasn't so pleased that the kids enjoyed that! He was also considered The "KING" of Dominoes at Pickett County Care & Rehabilitation.

Along with his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 66 years, Doris, two of his sons; James M. and Jeff A. Sampson, daughter-in-law, Joyce Elaine (Thomas) Sampson, great-granddaughter, Grace Ann Martin, one brother, Robert (Bobby) Sampson, three brothers-in-law, Sam Todd, James Muir & Chester (Chet) Pearce.

Jim is survived by three sons; Tim, Randy (wife Danita), Tony (wife Valerie), one daughter Julie (husband Tony) Sell & one daughter-in-law Terry Sampson.

Survived and Blessed by 8 Grandchildren; Jennifer (husband Jason) Tackett, Tyler (wife Elizabeth) Martin, Erika Sampson, Krista Sampson, Jalen (husband Dipesh) Soma, Chelsea (husband Steven) Conner, Cydney Sampson (fiance John Crouch), & Jazzton (wife London) Sell. Double Blessed by 14 great-grandchildren & 1 great-great-grandchild.

Sisters Maybelle Muir, Marilyn Pearce, one brother Charles (Butch) (wife Rosemary) Sampson, and one sister-in-law Mary Ann Sampson. As well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
