Martha Sue Beaty Phillips

October 13, 1930 — December 20, 2024

Martha Sue Beaty Phillips passed away December 20, 2024 at her sister Jimmie's home in Dunedin, Florida. Born and raised in Clinton County, Kentucky, she was the third of Lottie Sue Taylor Beaty and Oswald Denton Beaty's nine children. She enjoyed her time as a cheerleader at Clinton County High School, from which she graduated in 1948. Following graduation, she worked in Louisville, Kentucky and Detroit, Michigan. She married Hughel Dene Phillips on April 26, 1952 in Louisville. After living in Paintsville, Kentucky for several years, they moved to Tampa, Florida in 1958. She and Hughel were residents of their beloved Original Carrollwood for over 60 years.

Totally devoted to her family, Martha Sue always said that having her children and grandchildren was the most fun she ever had. She made delicious chocolate and peanut butter fudge for her grandbabies, who called her "Meme." She had a keen memory, gift of gab, and classy fashion sense. She passionately maintained her home "museum" of memories collected throughout her life. She was a longtime member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church in Tampa.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Hughel, her brothers Edsel, Dee, Bennis, and Jack Beaty, and her sister June Beaty Watson.

She is survived by her daughter Marti Phillips and her husband James Bostwick, her son Matthew Phillips and his wife Jane Park, her granddaughters: Taylor Anne Phillips Bostwick, Carter Sue Phillips Bostwick, and Ava Grace Phillips, Marti's stepsons: Brenton, Blake, and Grant Bostwick, her three sisters: Lala Haddix and Joan Groce of Albany, KY, and Jimmie Williams and her husband John Williams of Dunedin, FL, three sisters-in-law: Sarah Parrigin Beaty, Linda Beaty, and Lillian Beaty, and many nieces and nephews.
